Review
Eudora Welty meets Sam Raimi. A great little Southern Gothic thriller. Katie Holmes is sexy as the hot little minx who gets herself killed. Great performances by all involved. Kate Blanchette and Keanu Reeves are standouts. To read Chaosborn's archived review from the theatrical run click here.

The Disc
Not a bad DVD. The movie is good. The picture and sound fine, but there aren't a lot of extras. Whether you rent or buy will depend on howmuch you like the movie.

Picture Quality: 10/10
Great use of darkness, storms and fog during many critical scenes. The atmosphere is delightfully humid and creepy. The torrid Katie Holmes is there in all her naked beauty.

Sound Quality: 10/10
You can hear the crickets chirping, the southern belles panting and the spirits talking. Nice soundtrack. I like the 5.1 better than the 2.0, but both are quite good.

Menu: 5/10
Nothing inspired. Easy to navigate, but there is little to navigate through.

Extra Features: 4/10
The behind the scenes featurette is your typical studio puffery. Not much to the extras.

The Final Word:
I liked the movie. The technical quality is just fine, but the disc is pricy considering the lack of extras.
