1-Disc Keep Case
|
You hold onto it because it reminds you of something. I can't throw away movie ticket stubs, even for the bad films.
"Memento" will not be easily forgotten even if you do not buy the disc. I swear that I have never seen
anything like it before. Fascinating stuff, very cleverly done without any gimmicks that detract from the
scary conclusion (I mean beginning, right?).
Imagine if you could not "make" any new memories and you were stuck with the ones you have made up this very
minute. Could you survive? Would those memories, the bad ones with the good, carry you through, be enough?
The entire aspect of making memories is an intriguing premise. I had never thought that I made memories in
the first place but I suppose your memory is never a perfect recording of your past because you do actually
make or form the memory in your mind. Without thinking most of us trust what we remember, but what if that
trust was suddenly shattered or worse lost forever? "Memento" provides an answer one that is horribly real,
horribly guys. See this film!
I wanted to learn more about the science of memories. The joy of the DVD is that you can include other information
about the making of the film or the background for the story. It would have been helpful if we learned a little
from this disc.
Picture Quality: 10/10
Christopher Nolan tells us in the interview section that he thinks "Memento" should be seen on the big screen,
but I think that it plays very well at home. It is a film you will want to see again, stop in places and discuss.
Sound Quality: 10/10
The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is very clear and clean, with a decent amount of rear-channel activity for incidental ambiance.
Menu: 7/10
The options had a funny way of fading in a out (an effect that is obviously intended). This was annoying and unnecessary.
Extra Features: 7/10
No commentary from Mr. Nolan other than a somewhat cheesy but solid interview from television.
The Final Word:
Netflix.com sent this to us right as it was released. These guys are just terriffic. Make a note of this: Trust Netflix.com, they have lots of DVDs to rent, your name and credit card are required so you must remeber them, although you don't have to return the film immediately, eventually mail the DVD you rent back to Netflix.com in their handy dandy little mailer. It is not necessary to tattoo this on your body simply print it and tape it to your monitor.
