Review
"Madeline" is the creation of writer Ludwig Bemelmans. The too-wise-for-her-age Madeline lives with 11 other girls in an orphanage. At least I think it is an orphanage. There is a nun and the other kids. Anyway, Madeline is an annoying little goodie-goodie who always seems to save the day. I'm not sure who this series is aimed at, but my girls didn't like "Madeline." Madeline is supposed to be smarter, wiser and superior to everyone else. Makes you want to step on her!

"Madeline and the Easter Bonnet" deals with Madeline's efforts to make a pretty hat for the milkman's delivery horse. When the hat blows away, Madeline delivers the milk herself.

"Madeline and the Bad Hat" concerns Madeline's battle with a spoiled brat next door. The boy next door builds a guillotine and uses it in the neighborhood chickens. Too bad he didn't let Madeline take a ride on it.

I like children's entertainment that has positive messages. I found Madeline's superiority and goody-goody image unrealistic and annoying. I can't recommend this to anyone. The one positive point is the narration by Christopher Plummer.

The Disc
Terrible children's heroine. OK animation, good picture and fair sound. No extras. Vanilla DVD price.

Picture Quality: 8/10
The animation is very reminiscent of the book's illustrations. No pixilation. Well saturated colors.

Sound Quality: 7/10
Mr. Plummer's voice sounds rich and full. Otherwise, the sound is flat in places.

Easter Eggs:
None found during review.

Extra Features: 0/10
No extras. The DVD's price reflects the lack of extras.

The Final Word:
Don't waste your time unless you are a die-hard fan of the books, or want you little princess to be a snotty, superior snob.
