Marc Singer briefly chats with EI's Jonathan Hickman at Dragoncon 2003.

American Red Cross volunteers have been deployed to the hardest hit areas of Katrina’s destruction, supplying hundreds of thousands victims left homeless with critical necessities. By making a financial gift to Hurricane 2005 Relief, the Red Cross can provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.

DONATE HERE

Jonathan Talks with Marc The Beastmaster Singer, Dawn Creator Joseph Michael Linsner, and Lexx's Brian Downey at this year's Dragoncon in Atlanta, Georgia

“LEXX” COMING BACK TO THE SMALL SCREEN

Briefly, I spoke with actor Brian Downey who played the often bumbling comic relief but good hearted Stanley H. Tweedle on the oh so sexy cable SF show “Lexx.” He said that a new series may be on the horizon and hoped that the old cast members would return. “Lexx” which started as a Showtime series found itself elsewhere on cable as popularity for its quirky stories grew during a run from 1997 through last year. I told Downey that his show was very titillating. He said in jest that he liked anything titillating.

“V” BACK ON TELEVISION!

That’s right folks, Marc “BeastMaster” Singer himself told me that the original writer and director are back and things are in the works for a new mini-series. From IMDB, I discovered that the project has been announced as “V: The Second Generation.” I asked Singer whether Michael Ironside would be back and he was not sure, but hoped that everyone would return. Singer looked great and would be terrific reprising his role as Mike Donovan in the guilty pleasure SF mini-series “V” from 1983.

THE SECRET OF ATTRACTION?

“Dawn” comic creator Joseph Michael Linsner humbly told me that he unintentionally tapped into something with his Dawn character that is attractive to both men and women. “It was fortunate accident,” he said. Although he could not point to that “secrete ingredient” he said that his Dawn character is a highly stylized interpretation of feminine beauty. His art demonstrates something he referred to as a “visual vocabulary” containing elements that both men and women find bewitching.

There is no doubt about the veracity his statement because Dragoncon, for the past 6 years, has been overwhelmed by women dressed as his heroine. The now infamous Dawn look-a-like contest will take place again this year promising to be a celebration of the feminine form. There are even Dawn action figures that Linsner proudly said were available for kids of all ages.

I asked Linsner when we would be seeing Dawn on the big screen and he said he didn’t know but hoped Spielberg would be interested. He joked that the Indian Jones Director hasn’t returned his calls. He admitted that his dream pick for a director would be John Boorman and we both agreed that “Point Blank” was an essential part of one’s home video or DVD library. I told him in jest, that if I had a chance to interview Boorman, I would be sure to mention it to him. Boorman’s last film “The Tailor of Panama” was one of my favorites in 2001 and I’ve called it the anti-Bond film.

When asked who would play Dawn he said that while he would like to go with an unknown actress, the long-legged blonde South African beauty Charlize Theron would fit the bill nicely. He said that she appeared to have the right face and personality for the job.

Linsner was kind enough to pass a few of his books onto me and after taking a read, I’d say that “Dawn” the movie would be a Hell of ride.
